George Sandridge Promoted to Main Street Coordinator
Community Development Director
The Town of Altavista, in conjunction with Altavista On Track, is pleased to announce the promotion of George Sandridge, as Altavista’s new Main Street Coordinator. Sandridge began the post full-time on Monday, February 1, 2021. His office will be located within the J.R. “Rudy” Burgess Building (Town Hall) at 510 7th Street.
The Main Street Coordinator serves as the staff person for Altavista On Track, the accredited Virginia Main Street Program, which is led by a volunteer Board of Directors. Altavista On Track’s (AOT) mission is to create big things for our small town, by bringing new energy and engaging our community. Their vision is to revitalize our downtown, to foster economic development and opportunity, and provide leadership to enhance community identity and pride.
Sandridge worked for the town as the Administration and Policy Development Intern from January – June 2020, where he worked on several projects, which included Adopt-A-Street, livestreaming town meetings, a downtown parking study, and creation of user-friendly forms for the town. Mr. Sandridge returned to the town in October 2021, as the Community Coordinator to assist AOT when the former Main Street Coordinator Kirsten Aherron departed.
“The AOT Board of Directors is very excited to continue working with Mr. Sandridge. His interim leadership has provided glimpses of a wonderful and hopeful future for AOT, downtown Altavista, and the greater community as a whole”, stated Altavista on Track President, Rev. Eduardo Soto, Jr.
Sandridge is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In May 2021 he will complete his studies at Liberty University and obtain a Master of Arts in Public Policy.
