Urban Archery Application Period Open

The Town of Altavista Town Council has elected to participate in Virginia’s Urban Archery Program for the purpose of deer management.  Hunting is allowed on certain town-owned property during the Urban Archery Season. The Town is seeking applicants for the limited number of hunting permits for the approved properties including  Franklin Avenue at 10th Street, the dead end at 11th Street and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant off Lane Access Road.

Virginia’s Urban Archery season gives hunters one month (September 1 – October 1, 2021) before and three months after (January 2 – March 27, 2022) regular deer season in which only antlerless deer can be taken. Bow hunting in town is also permitted during the general deer season (October 2 – January 1) in which bucks can also be harvested per the regulations.

Interested individuals can obtain an application from Town Hall during normal business hours or an application may be downloaded from the town’s website at the address below. The Town should begin issuing the limited number of permits on July 28, 2021.
